Mountainside 24/7 Animal Emergency

April 2024 - Jazz

Jazz: black dog with red harness

Jazz, the miniature schnauzer, was enjoying a walk with her owner when she was attacked by two large off-leash dogs. Her owner rushed her to Mountainside where she was found to have numerous puncture wounds and was limping on her hind leg. Fortunately, despite the attack, Jazz was still alert and stable.

Our team began the process of carefully cleaning and shaving each of Jazz’s wounds to further assess the extent of her injuries. In this process, over six severe and four minor wounds were found.

After meticulously caring for each wound, Jazz was able to recover from sedation and begin a long healing journey. Given the nature of the wounds, closure was not immediately possible, requiring multiple visits for bandage changes and, five days later, an additional surgery. After ten days, Jazz’s sutures were removed, and following six hospital visits in fifteen days, she was well on the road to recovery.

Now healed, Jazz has regrown her beautiful coat. Her story serves as a reminder of the importance of responsible pet ownership—keeping pets secured and leashed can prevent tragic incidents like hers. Jazz's happy ending is a testament to the power of love, care, and quick action in times of crisis, inspiring us all to prioritize the safety and well-being of our furry companions.
