Mountainside 24/7 Animal Emergency

Case Highlight: Peanut

Peanut the chihuahua

Peanut, a 2-year-old female spayed Chihuahua, presented to Mountainside Animal Emergency after being trampled by a horse in Squamish. She had been tied to a post away from the owner's horse who was tied to another post. Before Peanut’s owner could realize that the leads were long enough to reach one another, there was a commotion between the two that lasted a few seconds. Peanut’s harness had been torn off her body and she was lying on the ground screaming. She was quickly brought to her local vet who gave her some pain relief and took radiographs before coming to Mountainside Animal Emergency. On presentation, she was in shock with a traumatic brain injury requiring aggressive medical management.

While in our care, the Mountainside doctors monitored her closely and administered pain medication to keep her comfortable. Over the duration of her stay at Mountainside, Peanut started to feel better, even becoming brighter and alert as time progressed! Pretty soon, she was ready to go back to her adoring family.
