While out for a stroll in the forest, Powder’s owner suddenly noticed a troubling amount of blood seeping from her paw. When she arrived at Mountainside, she bore a deep, actively bleeding wound on her right front paw's carpal pad. Eager to get Powder on the path to recovery, we got to work repairing the wound, which upon closer examination measured 3 cm in length and 1 cm in depth.
The wound was cleaned with dilute chlorhexidine and flushed extensively with saline. It was then sutured with three horizontal mattress sutures and we carefully dressed her paw with a protective bandage. Powder was soon discharged with pain medication and antibiotics, sporting a stylish new cone for added protection. Her owner received instructions to have the bandage changed every two days and before she knew it, Powder was back to bouncing through the forest full of energy!
