Mountainside 24/7 Animal Emergency

Emergency of the Week – Bessie

Bessie (Cat)

When sweet Bessie the 9-year-old sphynx cat came in, she was not having a good day. She had been found in the garden by her neighbors being attacked by a raccoon! When Bessie was brought in, she was bright, alert, and responsive, but had many wounds.

The majority of Bessie’s wounds were superficial, one larger wound did require some extra care and medical treatment however, so Bessie was admitted to the hospital for treatment. Bessie was given some sedation and the Mountainside Animal Emergency doctors examined, flushed, and closed the large wound on the right rear area. A drain was placed to collect any fluid discharge.

Bessie was sent home with some antibiotics and pain relief medications! She came back a few days later for the drain to be removed and by the time the sutures were removed, she was doing much better and the wound had healed significantly!

Her wounds healed nicely and Bessie is now happy and healthy at home!
